Janice Derrington

Obituary of Janice G. Derrington

Janice Gayle (Jones) Derrington, 75, of Bridgeport, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2019 after a short and courageous battle with cancer.  Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 18 at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Graveside services will follow at 12:00 noon Saturday in Cottonwood Cemetery in Bryson, Texas.

She was born on October 11, 1943 in Jacksboro, Texas to James Melton Jones, Sr., and wife Lula Arminda (Brimhall) Jones.  In 1963 Janice married her high school sweetheart Robert Derrington, and the couple settled in Bridgeport in the early 70s.

She was City Secretary for Runaway Bay for 20 years, and later worked for the prison in Bridgeport as a grievous officer before her retirement.

Janice will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a hard worker, and a loyal friend to many, as well as a very generous person. She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.  While we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain.

She is survived by her husband of almost 56 years, Robert Derrington; sons David Derrington and wife Melody of Fort Worth, and Daniel Derrington and wife Julie of Brock, Texas; five grandchildren: twins Katherine and Isabella Derrington of Brock, Dawson Derrington of Brock, Drew Derrington of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Brittany Foster and husband Leddy of Denton, Texas; great-granddaughter Winnie Foster; sister Betty Bourbon of Bellville, Texas; and brother James Jones of Grand Prairie, Texas; along with many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
