Bennie was a person full of life and always had a smile on his face. I had the pleasure of being his personal trainer for the last few months, even on days that I had no motivation he motivated me to keep going. He would come in the gym happy always greeting the morning crew and ready to workout. In a short period of time he went from walking 30 sec straight holding on to the treadmill to walking 20 mins with out holding on. He loved his wife Maria and wanted to be able to keep up with her at at trip they had planned, in the times we worked out and had a conversation I got to know him.

I met Bennie many years ago right after meeting Maria for the first time. We never had a conversation that didn’t include mentioning our spouses ~ some nice, some not so nice (just kidding) ~ but always with love. Rodeos, flea markets, floral shows, market, restaurants, on the lake, and much more. Very rarely did I see one without the other. They were always together or on the phone with each other. My heart hurts for Maria and staff. Bennie touched so many lives with his kind heart and manners.
Love, Hugs and Prayers.
Grace Peterson.

So many great memories of Bennie and Maria . We were neighbors in Ft Worth , Chaco their dog thought he was as tough as my 4 Peibys ,Chaco had no fear . after Bennie and Maria moved to Bridgeport, I thought I would never see them again but fate has funny ways . we kept running it to one another at the strangest times , like new years 99-2000 in San Antonio then 2 years later in Shreveport at the casino on new years . We both wondered if we were stalking each other . I have gotten to know so many people in my life but Bennie and Maria are 2 of the best ever. I consider you family (even Chaco) Love you so much and you will be missed . Till we are together again my friend all my love to you and Maria forever.

In August of 2019, I was blessed into the lives of Benny and Maria. Bored by retirement, early one morning, I phoned Maria's Gift and Flower Shoppe to inquire about a possible part-time floral design position. My call was answered by a kind joyous voice, "Maria's!" The next day, I would meet the man with this joy in his voice. This was Benny! I remain grateful for having the opportunity to know both Benny and Maria. They were inseparable: Truly one in both spirit and life. Together, they loved their family and Bridgeport community; always giving from the heart. Benny's grace and quick wit will always be remembered.
Forever friend,
Susan Ferguson

Benny Umland was my brother-in-law.
Benny was one of the kindest most genuine man I have ever known.
One of the things that I managed to get off my chest before his passing. I was able to thank him for putting up with my sister all these years.
And of course he couldn't quit laughing, He had an awesome sense of humor.
He of course adored my sister, he was a wonderful provider protector and I can't think of anything he would not have done for my sister, they were inseparable.
What a blessing to have him be a part of our lives and part of our family.
To say that you will be missed is such an understatement.
Most everyone knows Benny and my sister Maria from their business in Bridgeport Texas. Maria's Gift and Flower Shop, But there was so much more.
Benny and my sister Maria ware the founders of Benito's Restaurants in Fort Worth Texas.
They brought the concept of "Taqueria's" to Fort Worth after they stablished their main restaurant in the hospital district named Benito's in 1980 and as we all know Taqueria's are now everywhere.

Bennie seemed a quiet man, yet I knew he had a since of humor form the first time we met. Then I found out he might have a little bit of mischievousNess behind those blue eyes of his. How wonderful, how short the time to share their story. And how they loved. You hear people say all the time they 'married their sole' mate. There was no question about it.
From across the street from their Flower shop I will always hear Bennie "Good morning Ann" Hardest working man I know. Though he would never admit sneaking off to Starbucks for a treat now and then.
