Obituary of Eddie "Laddie" Lane

A Graveside service for Eddie “Laddie” Glenn Lane, 82, of Bridgeport, Texas will be Sunday, June 14th at 2:00 pm at East Bridgeport Cemetery in Bridgeport. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 in Bridgeport.

Eddie was born on September 18, 1937 in Berino, New Mexico to Lavonia Morgan and Homer Bell. He served his country in the US Navy for almost four years. Eddie worked as a pipe fitter welder for the local Union in New Mexico.

Dad (Grandpa/Poppy to his grandchildren) had a passion for boxing and jogging in his younger days. He continued his routine of walks and shadow boxing all the way up to April 17th, 2020. As a young man, he participated in the boxing club during his Navy days then was a lightweight boxer in New Mexico. His strength, endurance, and love for his family were known by all. In the words of his grandsons, “Grandpa was my hero.” He expressed his faith and our family has great comfort that he knew our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If there is a boxing ring in heaven, Dad is there shadow boxing.

Eddie is survived by his five daughters Vicki Lawson Garza of Crowley, Texas, Louise Cates and husband Kenny of Decatur, Texas, Cathy Thompson and husband Larry of Newark, Texas, Glenda Gaines and husband Luke of Mansfield, Texas, and Rachal Lane of California; his very special friend Billie Brown of Bridgeport; brothers Will Ed Bell and wife June Denise of League City, Texas and Ronnie Pat Johnson and wife Elaine of Mount Clemens, Michigan; grandchildren Starla, Patrick, Melissa, Megan, Jose, Benjamin, Eric, and David; great-grandchildren Sage, Emoree, Peyton, Albert, Thaila, Blain, Brooklynn, Kash, Slade, Maggie, Jayce, Isabella, Noah, Troy, Lily, Makenzie, Carlie, and Dawson; and many more friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Lane.
