Obituary of Geraldine "Geri" Wegrzyn
Geraldine “Geri” (Jelinski) Wegrzyn, 84, of Colorado passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020 in Paradise, Texas. There will be no services at this time.
She was born on August 11, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. In a sudden, one’s time here on earth comes to a halt. In a blink of an eye, one’s flesh becomes cold, and one’s soul finds a new beginning. We enter the world with a heart rate racing to explore, we leave with our heart slowing after a life well-lived.
Geri married Donald Wegrzyn in 1956 and had three children.
Our Geri was a hard-working businesswoman, owning and running clothing stores in Chicago with her husband and mother.
The family moved to Alamosa, Colorado in 1977. Geri, Don, and the children took over a family restaurant from her brother, DJ and wife Betty Jelinski. The Out house “N”, where they cooked up the best pizzas and steaks in town.
Retiring wasn’t a word Geri ever fully explored; she shared her free time at “The Bridge of Alamosa”, caring for those similar in age, “to keep her feeling young.”
Geri moved to Paradise, Texas in 2018 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Two years of declining health, and our Geri crossed to the other side with family near.
Geri was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, eldest son Michael in 2014, and youngest son Ronald in 2018.
She is survived by her daughter, Cherlyn Flor and son-in-law Peter of Paradise; granddaughters Carissa Green and Iliana Wegrzyn; sister Camille Michalski and brother-in-law Thaddeus.
