Obituary of Bob and Phyllis McCulley

Services for John Robert ‘Bob’ McCulley, Sr., 70, and wife Phyllis Ann (Myers) McCulley, 77, both of Chico, Texas will be 10:00 am Friday, November 13, 2020 at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Bridgeport, officiated by Bro. Gary Demmitt. Burial will follow at Thomas Cemetery in Bridgeport. Visitation will be Thursday, November 12 from 5-7 pm at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home. Bob and Phyllis passed away Sunday, November 8 in Decatur.

 

Bob was born December 27, 1949 in Freeport, Texas to Nolan Donald McCulley and wife Beryl Darlene (Henrichs) McCulley.

 

Phyllis was born August 10, 1943 in Austin, Texas to Herbert Joseph Myers and wife Marie Carmen (Di Micelli) Myers.

 

Bob is a 20-year retired veteran, that served our country as Chief Petty Officer E-7 in the US Navy.  His duties included, on land and sea, launch, recovery and maintenance of Navy Aircraft, including; F-14 Tomcat, A-7 Corsair, F-18 Hornet as well as numerous helicopters.  He served on the USS Constellation, USS Enterprise and various other carriers. For the remainder of his career, Bob worked at aviation companies, Aviall and Dallas AirMotive as Aircraft mechanic, maintenance and quality control / assurance specialist.  He moved to Chico Texas, fully retired, and joined the Wise County Veterans Group where he was an active member until his passing. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest.

 

Phyllis was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed shopping, especially for her grandkids at back to school, Christmas, birthdays, Easter and every other occasion.  She loved to decorate for the holidays, have big family dinners and spoil the grandkids.  She and Bob attended every baseball game, volleyball game, dance recital, music recital, play production that her grandkids were ever involved in and wouldn't have it any other way.

 

Bob and Phyllis never had to know life without each other. For this, the family is grateful.

 

The couple are survived by sons Russell McCulley and wife Christy of Bedford, Texas, Chris Frey and wife Christy of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Paul Frey and wife Kelley of Brazoria, Texas; grandchildren Emily, Mason, Darby, Jacob, Brooke, and Joseph; and numerous other family.

 

They were preceded in death by their parents, and son John Robert McCulley, Jr.
