Obituary of Chito Gonzales

Services for Fileberto ‘Chito’ Gonzales, 92, of Bridgeport, Texas will be 10:30 am Friday, May 14, 2021 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Bridgeport, officiated by Father Reehan Antony and Deacon Art Casias. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery in Bridgeport. Rosary will begin at 6:00 pm Thursday, May 13, with visitation to follow until 8:00 pm at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Chito passed away Tuesday, May 11 at home.

 

He was born December 23, 1928 in Sonora, Texas to parents Fileberto and Carmen Gonzales.

 

He was an excellent and well-known carpenter and concrete man in Bridgeport and the surrounding area for many years, working the last 13 years before his retirement for Bridgeport ISD. Chito was a hardworking man who had an easygoing manner.

 

Chito was an avid fisherman and headed out to the water with his beer and bait at every chance.

 

He was a family man who adored his children and was interested in all aspects of their lives. He and wife Tina had the gift of hospitality and when others came to visit they were always made to feel welcome in the Gonzales home.

 

Chito leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Tina (Gonzalez) Gonzales of Bridgeport; children Albert Gonzales and wife Melanie of Watauga, Texas, Suzana Hicks and husband Lance of Bridgeport, Samuel Gonzales and wife Michelle of Decatur, Sarah Samples of Bridgeport, Daniel Gonzales of Bridgeport, Sonia Kerr and husband Lance of Bridgeport, and Gabriel Gonzales and wife Verdie of Boerne, Texas; brothers Manuel Gonzales and Edward Gonzales; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Oscar, Emilio and Ruben; and sisters Lala, Alecia, Minerva, and Rebecca.
