Obituary of Angel Ritchey

Angel Luther Ritchey went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 4, 2021 in Decatur, Texas.  Funeral services will take place at 10:00 am Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico, Texas with Reverend Mike Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in Chico Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Angel was born in Decatur, Texas on October 19, 1942 to CD and Cora (Moss) Luther.  She graduated from Chico High School in 1960.  She began working for Haggar Clothing Company in Bowie, Texas in 1967 and rose to Assistant Plant Manager.  In her tenure at the Bowie plant, she won numerous awards and accolades as a line supervisor.  She streamlined the manufacturing process and managed her team to win Line of the Year across all of Haggar’s manufacturing plants.  She was highly competitive and her Haggar team enjoyed the benefits of that competitive spirit.  The Haggar management team took notice and sent her to business school in Wichita Falls in order to promote her to Assistant Plant Manager of the Bowie plant.  She was the first female member of the Haggar management team.  In 1975, she transferred to Oklahoma City to serve as the Assistant Plant Manager of the Oklahoma City plant.  She eventually worked her way up to Plant Manager and Vice President of Quality Control and Distribution at the company’s corporate headquarters in Dallas, a position which allowed her to travel the world.  She was able to travel to many countries including the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Pakistan, and Hong Kong.  She was well-versed in Human Resource Management and helped the company defend multiple wrongful discharge suits.  While she loved her work, her primary goal was to provide for her children and give them the same opportunities she had to live the best life she knew how to live.

Angel was a member of the Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico.  She was loved by everyone who had the opportunity to know her.  She is survived by her two children, Mike Maddux and wife Julie of Chico, and Cindy Maddux Sheddy and husband Chad of Argyle; five grandchildren: Meredith Highsmith and husband Aaron of Amarillo, Texas, Shane Maddux of Weatherford, Texas, Allison Maddux of Chico, Jacob Sheddy of Addison, Texas, and Joseph Sheddy of Argyle, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Eili Highsmith, Emelia Highsmith, and Callum Highsmith of Amarillo, Texas.  She is also survived by her siblings, Mattie McConnell of McAlister, Oklahoma; CB Luther and wife Darlene of Chico; and Vera Luther Norris and husband Wendell of Hemphill, Texas; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Angel was preceded in death by her parents, CD and Cora Luther and her husband Bob Ritchey.

Angel loved spending time with her family, gardening, helping coach her granddaughter’s basketball and volleyball teams, watching Dallas Stars hockey, baking amazing dishes, and playing 42 with friends and family.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico.
